Thats a Northern Mockingbird. Not a great picture, but note especially the white wing patch and long tail. Catbirds dont have a white wing patch. Also Northern Mockingbirds are more prone to attacking something then Gray Catbirds are. They commonly attack their own reflection, and sometimes even people, if they get to close to their nests. But I really have no idea on how to keep it from attacking your cat. My best suggestion would be to keep your cat indoors. Hope this helps

Can't really tell much from the photo; by the time I blew it up, it was extremely pixellated. Wouldn't think it's a Catbird because of that "messy" beginning of a white wingbar, which catbirds don't have but which is typical of Mockers. However, both species are gray and your bird is reddish brown, unless the color's way off, which is always possible when viewing photos on the 'net.

In any event, there's not a whole lot you can do about any wild bird pecking your cat except keep your cat indoors. ;) This is breeding season, and birds are especially territorial, particularly Mockingbirds, if indeed this is one. My guess is there's a nest nearby and your cat is, of course, a natural predator so the bird's going to be a bit protective. :t:

On my monitor it doesn't look reddish brown. it looks grayish, like it should

Same thing has occurred in my backyard every year for the past 26 years. Mockingbirds always nest in a large group of oleanders in the front of the house, but claim the front and back as their territory.

Three weeks ago they went into cat attack mode for two solid weeks. One of the pair even perched on the fence within 2 feet of my back door and would not move even if you entered or left. Just squawked like a banshee. He or she even had a go at me a few times, and a few people walking near the corner of the block.

The cats and I have learned to live with it, and in 26 years no one has been harmed yet. The cats usually skulk off to a quite corner to find some peace, and the Mocking birds seem to keep this up for a few weeks then settle down.

Mockingbird, they are one bird that will put a cat out of the yard, peck at them continously untill they move away from fledglings or from nest area.
