Hi everyone,

I purchased recently a pair of 12x50 bushnell engage and i am really impressed
with them for bang for your buck.

they are as good as my meopro 10x32 all day long i even like the eyepieces better than the meopro's.

i even bought a pair of bushnell legend L 8x42's and they are just as good as the engage.

i was wondering what would be best i guess the legend M series or the engage in 10x42? maybe the legend L too???

I know the specs are the same except the legend L's do not have the same prism coatings as the other two. but i can't tell the difference as the 8x's are bright to in low light!

are bushnell's that good for the money ?

I can confirm that at least some seem to be.

E.g. Bushnell‘s top of the line Forge, about which I wrote in another context (about the 8x42 model):
„The “Forge” – which comes in sizes 8×42, 10×30, 10×42 and 15×56 – is currently Bushnell’s top binocular product line. This is an excellent example of how far modern China-made quality binoculars have come – well designed, well built, well finished, with an attractive field of view, a good central sharpness, decent off-axis sharpness, a bright image, wide sweet spot, and good CA-correction. The performance gap to the European and Japanese sub-prime and premium binoculars is not that big any more; the price is still significantly lower, so the Forge is an attractive proposition in terms of “value-for-money”.“

I tried a Bushnell Forge 10x42 and I still preferred the Vortex Viper HD 10x42 optically and build quality wise and if you are going to buy a MIC binocular at that price point you want something with a rock solid warranty and I have found Bushnell's customer support to be dismal. I contacted them once about getting a replacement objective cover and they didn't even contact me back. Vortex on the other hand will contact you the next day and send you a new pair of binoculars if you have a problem with yours. That and good marketing is why I think they are the leader in MIC binoculars.

Is the Forge better than the Vanguard ED IV?

What was the focuser like on the new Forge?

No doubt the vortex vipers are better but price of the vipers are around $500 as the 8x42 legend l’s were $120 shipped and the 12x50 engage were $250 shipped . I think they were still were better bang for your buck than the vipers FYI just ordered a pair of 10x42 bushnell engage for $150 shipped can’t wait to try them out!

The Vortex Diamondbacks and Crossfires play in that low end market and you get a much better warranty.

Definitely yes to your first question. They cost about the same, but I found the Bushnell to be much superior in many ways (I was a fan of Bushnell many years back when the built "real" binoculars, like the fabulous Rangemaster 7x35 etc., but have not liked many of their later, especially the cheaper, products).

The focuser of the Forge works smoothly, precisely and with zero play (my sample of the Vanguard has a focuser that feels similar, but exhibits quite a bit of play).
I am also quite demanding regarding a very precisely parallel focusing action in both tubes; the Forge meets my demands, the Vanguard doesn't.

I just DESPISE play in a focuser. It makes it so hard to get a precise focus on anything. I would rather have an overly tight focuser with NO play. A lot of MIC binoculars have play in the focuser.

Yes, yes, YES! Sorry, getting passionate there! I absolutley agree. Some folks don't like blurry edges of field of view (mentioning no names), some don't like astigmatism or curved lines at the field edge. Me? Just hate moving a focusing wheel to and fro without the point of focus changing.

Been saying this for a while, that the Engage has incredible image quality for the money.

Yes, some have play in the focuser. And yes, that will drive some people crazy. But the view and the form factor are among the best in any mid-price category.

As for the Legend M's, all I can say is "wow!" every time I look through my wife's 8x42's. She loves them and it is easy to understand why.
