Coming soon on the BBC is The Americas, a 10-part series covering wildlife across the entire Americas.

Narrated by Tom Hanks, it was made for NBC by the BBC's Natural History Unit. The US release is towards the end of February this year, so I can't imagine we'll need to wait too long for it on the BBC.

Here's the NBC trailer for it:

Finally found time to watch the first one. Why the prominence to the feral horses (especially since I bet mustangs will feature later in the series)?

Tom Hanks's coy narration is also seriously annoying, as we feared. The BBC should pull the narration and rewrite it in the style of a proper BBC nature documentary. I don't care if it's Clive Myrie as long as it's informative and not Noddy level. In fact Noddy Holder would be better given a decent script.

I'm back to catching up on this, just watching the Amazon episode which is prehistoric wildlife film-making. Nice pictures, shame about the infantile narrative.

I must admit I'm a couple of episodes behind now. Some good scenes, but it feels very lightweight. Is this what Americans like?
