Tawny Owl sounds (1 Viewer)

Local Tawny Owls give lots of less typical calls, intermediate between call and song, or short song like eg. 'kivik, kivik, kivooooo...' or short 'oouuoo...'.

Vogelstimmen CD lists such sounds as 'older juveniles'. HWP tells nothing about the age. Anybody knows if they can be certainly identified as juveniles by call?

Tawny Owl(s) regularly roost in the garden through the year and are often vocal, eliciting the classic gender calls, plus a range of ''variations'' sometimes drawn out, also can be with more abbreviated hoots and squeals.

It ''might be significant?'' that the atypical calls are often given during the Summer months, I will take note in the future.

Cheers
