Hello, I saw this swift at Soneri beach, Karachi, Sindh province, Pakistan on 14th December 2024. Lack of White rump instantly made me chase this bird but I could only take a few shots due to its speed. It was headed away from me.
Thin, pointed tips to wing, very forked tail, restricted white on throat, dark overall plumage points towards a Common swift but a good friend, a keen birdwatcher pointed out the possible confusion with Pallid swift and I wanted to confirm therefore. Pallid is a rare winter visitor here, Common has never been sighted (confirmed) in the province athough some rarely pass through the province based on telemetry records. Common swifts are plentiful Summer visitors in the Northern Highlands.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
