Swarovski harness for field pro attachments (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I just bought NL 8x32s.

I prefer to use a harness to keep the weight off my neck. I have a Rick Young harness and an Optech one but I am wondering if it is worth buying the Swaro harness to use the field pro lugs rather than using adapters on the RY or Optech.

What do you folk think? Anyone using the Swarovski harness? Like it or dislike it?

Thanks

Boogieshrew,

Can you clarify, is there a newer version of the SW harness designed to work specifically with the NL / FP system without using the SW OEM plastic adaptors? If not I can post a picture of the attachment method I use with the RYO harness on my SW CL b.

Those my favorite. There I said it.
I use RYO. Never tried Swaro harness. Just use the fixed loops that come in the accessory box with the NLs, not the Swarovski swivel thingies. Also thank you Chuck Hill (Chill6x6), but ditch the RYO metal loops. Use small zip ties. See pics/vids in these 2 threads

Hi,

Having just checked online images I can see that the Swarovski harness isn't any different to optech. I was under the mistaken understanding that the Swarovski was FP specific.

I think I will just use my optech harness in that case.

The RY one I use with my Retrovid 7x35s but have never been entirely happy using zip ties as connectors not the fact that the tightener toggle on the back often gets between me and a rucksack and gets uncomfortable.

Thanks all for making me reassess and find a conclusion to my dilemma

Looking forward to using my new binos at the weekend 👍

Enjoy the binos. You might try the attachment method pictured for the RYO harness.

Oh yes. I like that. What are those little straps? Where are they available?
There are several sources --all versions are similar -- but IIRC, I got mine from Optech. I use harnesses of various types on nearly all my full and mid size bins so have used this system extensively including on FP where zip ties are not ideal, never had a problem. The split rings are included with the leather straps.

Mike could you give us a www. link to check thanks.
Sorry, my memory was faulty. Based on a quick search, these connectors are made by Vortex (and not available on the OpTec or RYO sites)-- "Vortex Strap connector for harness straps". They are available from www.optics4birding.com in sets of two. Presumably they are available from Vortex as well which may be a better source for buyers in Europe. Hope this helps.

I just took close look at the new BH harness that includes the chest mount protective bag. Close up view shows harness strap extenders that utilize the FP strap adaptors. I use the strap adaptors with my 8x32 NL, for a lightweight home made strap. Have had no issue with the FP strap adapters.

If your thinking about how to attach FP bino to a chest pouch. Heres a pic of my Kuiu. Just contact Swaro for an extra set of the connector w square slots. These just reside there for quick switch between RYO setup, which uses its own square slot connector.

Hi Mike,
Why don't you just attach the metal rings directly on the strap lugs of Swarovski? Because it otherwise hits/scratches the binoculars?
Reinier,

Right. At first I was attaching the RYO harness metal rings directly on conventional lugs but after a while noticed it was scaring up the lugs and so switched to the straps and rings or zip ties dedpending on the bins and just started using this method on the FP system adaptor clip without checking to see if directly attaching the rings would cause the same problem. In other words, might not be a big deal to attach using only the rings on a FP model.

Years ago, Swarovski recognized the problems with metal rings on the metal lugs. They had some break
the lug when they came in for warranty repair. They gave out a strap similar to the one in post #11.
I recall just by phoning them they sent it to you in the mail. I'm sure they still do the same.
