Swaro booster - discontinued? (1 Viewer)

don't find the 2x booster on the swaro homepage any more,
is it history? still in some web-stores but
does it work for the latest SLC:s?

it's not working for SV series (only older EL), for sure,

will swaro release new boosters?

perhaps it did not sell enough…??

Hi Vesp,

They are out of the collection but several dealers have them still in stock.
They won't fit the latest models of the SLC (no adjustments rings available) but I have seen handy mountings using a seperate eyecup as adjustment ring

Jan

Not with the original adjustment rings, but they can with a seperate eyecup (use that one as the fitting adjustment ring by removing the rubber cover ring).
The eyecups are for free available for each model.

Jan,

Can the Booster still be screwed on this new separate eye cup?

[Swarovski also offered separate eye cups for SLCs made before 1999. (lower than #D69xxxxxxx as specified in the instruction sheet I got.)]

My 2x Booster, which I use on my 7x42B independently from an eye cup, came with an "SLC 10x42 ADAPTERRING" and an "Adapter EL-32/Booster."

These Adapter rings fit inside the front end of the Booster by means of a screw thread and are meant to be used without the eye cups in order to screw the booster on in place of an eye cup.

I have to remove an eye cup from my 7x42B and and replace it with the Booster to use it on the 7x42B. My binocular was made in 2006.

Bob,

Those rings are no more available for the current models, but I've seen work from some "genius" who removed the rubber ring from the eyecup and made that one fit for mounting the booster.
Because the eyecup already had the right screwingthread for the bin side, they realized the right thread for the one on the booster. This depends on the diameter of the eyecup for the bin in use. Others just glued/siliconed the eyecup on to the booster(ring).
It takes some work but it works!

or just mount your binos permanently in your eyes like this,
by pure suction it seems, no silicone needed,
see attached photo
:-O

anyway, just wondering WHY swaro quit the booster,

another alternative was the Opticron booster,
but that seem to be sold out as well

http://www.opticron.co.uk/Pages/uta.htm

I guess they want to sell small scopes instead,
or 12 or 15x binos

Isn't this the Model HHB-WSH (Hold breath-Heart beat absorber-Bipod-Weight deflection-Shoulder Harness)? Works Great, but aren't they discontinued?? 3:) :-C

Are the new 42mm SLC eye cups that much different from the old versions? You would think they could make Adaptors for them that would fit the booster.

Bob,

Not that different, only the kind of screwing thread.
It would be easy for them to make a adjustment ring for all models (every toolmaker can make such a ring) but the problem with this kind of attachment is/was that the screwing thread is very vulnerable for using in the field (read: damage to the thread due to wrong fixation combined with an to heavy booster).
To repair the thread the complete oculairhousing had to be taken out and replaced, so the costs were completely out of balance compared to the sales of the boosters. I never saw any bill from Swarovski for replacement costs caused by damage because of improper attachement by users.

. A cynic might say that the manufacturers don't want to make their binoculars to such high standards that they need to be able to take a two times, 2.5 times or three times booster, without compromising the image quality.

Also I would think that it is important to align and to centre the booster exactly.
