Squirrel's make wird noises (1 Viewer)

Today I was at a botanic garden birding and I heard this strange noise it sounded like a crow and I thaught might be a nest or somewhere so I followed the noise I looked up the tree and there was a Squirrel making it. It was very weird I never knew they made that kind of noise.

it's really kind of hard to explain what it sounds like but I do know when I discovered it and looked up everyone passing by looked up and were totataly amazed and if I didn't look up people would of walked past. PS saw a Pigeon Batheing in the sun I was very close to it but sdly had no camera

I know exactly what you mean. I've heard them doing an odd long growl. Very odd, you'd never think it was a squirrel.

Not only do they make strange noises but they will pee on you if stood underneath one. The buggers have had me twice.

I once heard my wife make a similar noise when she accidently picked up my credit card bill - and found out how much I had spent on a new scope !

they do make strange noise when angry, sort of a squeaky growl, very weird.

was in a hide recently, and watched a grey squirrel and great spotted woodpecker battling it out over a pea nut feeder. they were having a right go at each other for an hour or so, taking turns to chase each other away.

the noises they both made were crazy!

Lol! Squirrels do make extremely weird noises - often not unlike a cat being strangled. They also chatter a lot which seems to scare the birds, and small children!

We had two fighting over a suet feeder last week. Very strange sounds, indeed! I've heard them chatter before, but this was wicked!

it sounds like a strangled growl to me, like a very small angry Yorkshire terrirer! They intersperse it with little 'chucks' aswell, so it will go something like: chrrrrrrr-chuck-chuck-chrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-chuck-chrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

They'll also do a repeated upwards-inflected whine, like a creaky door opening: kurrrreeeeEE-kurrrreeeeEE-kurrrreeeeEE.....

if that makes any sense at all...!

Oh yeah they certainly do make weird noises!

That squirrel was making the most ridiculous noises at some birds and a cat below.
I think it does have something to do with being angry. Because now I'm noticing that they make the sound at other animals & birds, and I actually think he's yelling at them! hehe.

The one evening I was sitting out on my porch, and the one squirrel was going on and on and rather loud, and I felt like shouting at him, "SHut up already!", because it was getting kind of annoying. haha.
