Spanish Loud Repetitive Sound (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone, I heard a bird near Callela, Barcelona - it sounded very repetitive and almost like an alarm. I've linked a recording of it below, curious to see what it may be. Thanks

Hi Archie, welcome to Birdforum. The repetitive noise you recorded is not a bird though, it’s a cicada ( we call them cigale in France). Hopefully you’ll hear some owl calls at nighttime 🤞

This actually does sound spot on for Cicada orni which is found over most of southern Europe

Definitely cicadas. There's also a bird song towards the end that resembles Western Bonelli's Warbler or perhaps Cirl Bunting. Too faint and short for me to be certain though.

Yes, the Western Bonelli's Warbler was in the area and did see it on multiple occasions
