Some Bolivian birds from Atacama Desert (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I think all the flamingos in these photos are James's Flamingo rather than Andean, but just checking. As far as I can see they're all black on the lores (but I am colourblind so could miss the red), and lack the black "triangle" on the rear body on landed ones.

The duck is obviously a Crested Duck, but posting to confirm that it's Andean Crested Duck (L. s. alticola) rather than Patagonian Crested Duck (L. s. specularioides), or if there have been any taxonomic changes?

The small grey passerine I have no idea on and would appreciate any help on.

All sent to me by my Mum on her S American trip.

Eye colour makes it alticola (orange cf red)

I think you're thinking of the Altiplano rather than the Atacama.

Very long tertials and warm brown in wings seems better for a miner - I'd guess common miner (rather than rufous-banded miner).

Indeed, that's an Andean Crested Duck. And I agree with Butty that it is a Common miner.

I'm sure she meant Atacama Butty. At least from google searches that matches where these species can all be found too. My reference to Bolivian birds in the title was just me not realising that my Mum was now in Chile! She has been travelling around a lot as you've probably noticed from my posts!
