OK so I really need help from yous please !
I looked into the camera clips (thank you
@dannat ), but I cannot see how that would work with my set up. I went out at the weekend, and tbh it was a bit of a nightmare. The vortex binocular harness worked well - on its own. When combined with the camera case (Lowepro TLZ-45) the only way I could get this to work was by holding the camera in my hand, with the strap wrapped round my hand to prevent it from falling. This of course made it extremely difficult to use the bins at the same time. Add to that trying to hold the iphone to get merlin working, and this actually was as comical as it sounds !! Ideally, I don't want to ditch the Lowepro, but I think this might be confined to "safely porting in the back of the car" duties unless anyone can suggest otherwise !!
I am thinking to simplify things for next trip like this, but would welcome any input from experience or just logistical genius !!
1. Only get iPhone out if I can hear a bird I need to identify, otherwise rely on sight and my own hearing (that sounds like a disaster already !!).
2. Get either a WAKI or Blackrapid sports over shoulder sling and attach camera so it is ready to shoot.
I am still struggling though to see how the vortex harness and blackrapid sling will not get in each other's way ? I was thinking to keep the camera down by my right hip, but surely the sling will prevent the smooth "lifting" movement of the binoculars or vv ? How DO you manage this ? I am probably missing the obvious but at this stage I would even buy a gadget from Wile E Coyote's Acme gadget store if it got me over the line !!
If I do decide to go with the sling, I read reviews of both WAKI and Blackrapid Sports offerings, and they read better for the WAKI, anyone any insights/experiences here as to what is the better product, or even what worked for you and why ?
I hope I have given much clearer requests here than just "how do I do this", and willing to purchase more accessories if I need to.
As always, thanks to all who respond, and sorry for such a lengthy tome.
One pic from new camera attached, song thrush in full song in Tollymore Forest, Northern Ireland. Dark (I think, because I needed to use full 600 zoom to get the close up).
