Simmons Wilderness 10x42 (1 Viewer)

Hi Guys,

I`m a newbie to the forum so "Hello to Everyone"

I`ve been looking at a few deals on the Simmons Wilderness 10x42 and was wondering if anyone has had the chance to try them.

I`ve used Simmons Scopes in the past and their low light viewing and crisp images are second to none.

But have never used the bins.

All feedback welcome

Gavin

Hi Gavin,

A warm welcome to BirdForum from all the Moderators and Admin.

I'm afraid I don't know the bins you mention so can't give an opinion.

Gavin, those binoculars are sold for $99 at Walmart and other such stores here in the US. I've looked through several pairs, and i found several samples that could not focus closer than 50 meters. They are not bright and sharp. Also, stray light and ghosting is at a max. In short, a genuine piece of garbage. In fact, i really wanted them to be good enough for birding, because i wanted to buy a few for friends who cannot afford binolculars, but they were not good at all. If 100 is all you have, get a porro prism from Nikon, or the Nikon Sporter.

Cheers for the info as i was also hoping they would be good so i`ll check out the Nikon instead as i`m only looking to spend around £100 max at the moment.

But if there is any others worth looking at then i will gladly take advise

Regards

(Now I notice that the Wilderness were roof prsims, unrelated, oh well)

There is a sports store in our mall, and they had some Simmons 8x and 10x models out. The ProSport models are much improved from their previous stuff. I do not have any Bushnells with the rocker focus, that they sell at discount stores, but I would say this lineup is slightly better. The 10x model on display was better than the 8x on display, but the 8x display model did not match the one in the plastic package. Close focus on the 10x was about 15-20ft. I guess they put some effort into this as the hunters buy most of the 10x.

Posted this note with the previous Simmons title, as there may not be much discussion. Cheap porros are all much the same, but these are not the worst. The close focus may be better than some more well known 10x50 porros.
