I'm moving to the area shortly, and wondered if anyone has watched these area's recently?
It's an area I've never watched before, I know what to expect to see in the area so I'm looking forward to getting out there and discovering what is where. Any 'hidden gems' will be well received ;-)

Hi,

Although I don't profess to know loads about the area, I have done a couple of walks around Settle. Giggleswick Scar in particular is beautiful, and I observed several Redstart in this area.

Hi Rob
best spots for me are Gisburn Forest - there's free parking and a hide overlooking Stocks reservoir. Malham Cove area (with resident Peregrines), Grass Woods in Grassington and Skipton Woods (behind the castle) the latter with nesting herons and the odd kingfisher.
cheers Andrew

Birds of the Yorkshire Dales by W.R.Mitchell is another book to get has quite a few walks in it.
Don't forget Clapham Woods also holds some good birds.

Thanks Geoff, both Clapham woods and Hellifield flash are going to be regular patches i think, i'm looking forward to getting to know the area and hopefully finding something decent! I'll also be venturing down to Stocks an Malham but both slightly further than i'd like (even though they are both within 30 minutes drive - i'm just being lazy!)

I've had a look through John R. Mather's booke "Where to watch birds in Yorkshire" but that is 13 years old now, so am not sure how accurate some of the information on there is now.

Thanks for the input so far, I'll let you know how i', getting on.
