Second Hand 8x30 Rangefinder (1 Viewer)

Just bought a second hand 8x30 Swarovski rangefinder in the Uk for a bargain price. Works fine, a bit tatty but I was surprised at the brightness and quality of the image even compared compared to my 8x32 SV's.
However, it sadly didn't come with a user manual and I can't find one online..
Has anyone got a link to a user manual.

Cheers

Tim

Hi Tim,

I’ve never seen a manual or instructions for use of the Laser Guide on-line
However, I’ve attached 2 pages from Swarovski’s 2012 catalogue that will tell you most of what you need to know
The switch to adjust the readout from meters to yards is in the battery compartment, as is the serial number *

I’ve also attached a transmission graph. Its from a 2012 test by Gijs,
entitled 'Test rapport van 56 mm kijkers en kijkers met ingebouwde afstandmeter’,
and it can be found at: https://www.houseofoutdoor.com/verrekijkers/verrekijkers-testen-en-vergelijken/
Notwithstanding the fluctuations to the curve - which is common to most rangefinders - the overall transmission level is high
at between 82% and 92%!

* the number will have an N prefix, and then 9 digits. The first 2 digits will tell the year of manufacture (add 1930),
and the next 2 digits the week of the year (from 01 to 52)

Hi Tim,

Congrets and when I'm back in the shop (lockdown) I'll look for a manual.
Be aware that Swarovski doesn't service this item anymore. Problem no.1 by far is leaking batteries. If you don't use it remove the batteries.

The dioptre correction range of -5 to +14 is interesting.

Thanks Guys ...
Much appreciated for your speedy replies..

John. Thanks for you attachments..
Looks like the unit was manufactured in Mid March of 2007...But I only paid £199 for it.... I mean, what can you buy Optics wise from Swarovski for £199....
Plus I had a bit of a test of the device today.... Managed to range a building from the top of a local hill at 1790 Metres... I recorded my location on GPS and that of the building.... The range finder was 12 metres out which wasn't bad I guess. Plus just for fun I ranged a can of Holsten Pils lager, (just to preserve valuable energy) until my girlfriend got home...😁 It was accurate to 4 millimetres !

And thanks to Jan for having a look for me...

Cheers

Tim..

Hi again Tim,

The LG has two ranging modes: static and scan. As to how to select them . . .

'Looking at the display inside the unit, one will notice the red target circle. Pressing the button on top of the unit will turn it on.
Pressing it the second time will measure the distance of a target, which can take as long as 3 seconds.
Scan mode is pretty cool. Press the button for more than 2 seconds, it will continually measure distance as one tracks a target.
Units expressed in yards or meters is display below the target circle. If “—” appears, the LRF failed to measure the distance . . . '

The explanation is from a review at: https://www.cstactical.com/blog/Swarovski-Optik-LRF-8x30
Also see an image of the LED display

Laser Guide RF Production

Some additional information . . .

The Laser Guide was in production from late 2004 to late 2013 *

I've observed serial numbering from:
a) N7449 20852 to N8134 43598 (from a 20k start), and then
b) N8144 60041 to N8339 62226 (from a 60k start) **

So total production was around 26,000 units during the 9 year period
i.e. with numbering from 20,000 to 43,598+, and then from 60,000 to 62,226+

* see post #2 above as to how the first 4 digits of the serial number indicate the year and week of manufacture

** in August 2011, on all product lines, the 5 digit consecutive numbering component was modified to a 10,000 unit span,
with the first digit varying depending on the product type e.g. 6 was used for electronic devices

Further to post #2, I've found a copy of the LG manual at: Swarovski Optik Rangefinder - Manual (Page 9)
The link starts with the first page in the English language section (It's better viewed in Original rather than Text mode)

For ease of future reference I've also attached a copy of the four pages that explain the main operating functions.
