Here's a random friday night question - bare in mind i've had 1 or 4..B :)

Has anyone ever seen a Seagull perched/standing on a tree? The thought had come into my mind whilst stuck in traffic earlier today and I realised I had never witnessed this before.....I'll put my money on not too many folk seeing this either!!

Well two young fellas in a house very near me with the bottom of their garden adjoining a park here all winter have Seagulls landing in their garden as they are feeding them bread and scraps ..... Seagulls never leave the parks here looking for food and thats at least two gardens here they are landing in now for food. I have seen them perched on a roof overlooking my garden to see what I am putting out for birds and notice they are swooping very very low over my garden and next doors and all around here. I simply do not put out any bread just seeds always as do not want to then lose my garden birds. Strangely I watched about two Seagulls a week ago utterly convinced one was intending to try to land in my Ash tree but then it seemed to panic at last seconds and skimmed the top of it. I have photo of one on roof with pink chest and like two eyes in side of its head and not sure what type of Seagull it is ......... Do I think it is possible for one to land in a tree ? not sure but I definitely saw one thinking about it ............. As usual I cannot find my photo of one with pinky chest but will do later.

In London I've regularly seen Black-headed Gulls perched on trees, especially Weeping Willows, around lakes; probably the occasional common Gull with them too.

Bonaparte's gulls sometimes nest in trees. Here is an image of a bird at Churchill, Manitoba.

Your title suggested some form of competition, like Aberdeen v Dunfermline, that sort of thing. It might be Black-headed Gull v Weeping Willow 3-1.

Seriously, I cannot remember seeing a gull in a tree, but I will keep a look out for you, although maybe not on Friday night.

In Gibraltar, the growth of the Yellow-legged Gull population (ample food from the waste tips only a few kilometres away in Spain) means pressure on nesting space, and so they not only perch in trees and dense scrub, they also nest in them.

They like sitting on aerials and roofs in my neighbourhood and I've seen them perching on overhead wires on my patch (must take some balancing!) but can't remember if I've seen them in the trees.

I finally found this photo and not sure which type of Seagull it is .........there were actually two of them at first, then one flew away and I could see a soft pink colour all over the chest of this one, not sure if my camera caught much of it. Whatever they were they were beauties ............

In Germany Black Headed and Common Gull are the most common sights among gulls in trees.
common gull even has been recorded nesting in trees a very few times.
