Roosting starlings on the river Severn (2 Viewers)

My husband is over in england next week, and wondered where the best place would be to see the starlings roosting on the river severn. It's only a quick visit, so it would be great if anyone could give him some pointers. Thanks

Go to Slimbridge, an amazing roost there. If you need directions, just ask, but basically it's just off the A38 south of Gloucester.

Agreed, a good spot. Just don't stand under the trees in the carpark. I speak from experince....

I watched Bill Oddie's Wild Autumn programme last night where they filmed a starling roost somewhere in the Severn Valley (anyone know exactly where?). What a truly awe-inspiring sight and one I'd just love to see for myself some day! Like shoaling fish, there's something almost uncanny and other-wordly about seeing so many thousands of individuals behaving almost as one organism.

Thanks

Thanks Jos, we had thought about Slimbridge too. We also saw the Bill Oddie programme, and it didn't look as though he was at Slimbridge. I will let you know how he gets on!

Went to Slimbridge on Monday and there were no starlings! A few flocks went by heading south.
Apparently they are not stopping there this year, but according to a man who works there, they are going towards Purton.
But the Bewicks are there and apparently pink-footed geese, but they were being elusive.

I believe the Starling roost in Gloucester is at Frampton on Severn or there abouts.

Frampton on Severn?

is that the place about 30miles from Bristol?

Im down that area soon and would love to see the flock of starlings. If its not too far i can try and get to see the spectacle.

Ive been looking up here in the NE (there was even a thread on here about it) but as yet havnt been successful.

any more info would be appreciated.

Approx 20 mIles North East of Slimbridge.Junction 13 on M5.A38.B4071.
I have not visited this roost so I can`t give exact details of site location.
Weather conditions are important. When I went to see the Westhay roost the sky was overcast and it was very windy. The Starlings came in and went to ground immediately. If possible choose a calm bright day between 3-4.30 pm.
