Reserves near Weybourne? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me of any reserves near Weybourne that are worth visiting in late Sep/Early Oct? I'm visiting that area and would quite like to get some passage birds if possible, or just anything interesting. Thanks for any help |=)|

If you go west along the coast from Weybourne you get to Muckleburgh Hill, which is a high point with lots of scrub (has had Bluetail, Dusky Warbler etc). Further west is a carpark with a track leading down to Kelling Quags. The hedges either side are good for migrants, and there are wet meadows and usually a large pool (it may be dried up at the moment?). If you walk to the beach you can then walk along the edge of Weybourne Camp (the scrub here has had Lesser grey Shrike and Great Spotted Cuckoo in recent years) and complete a circular walk back to Weybourne. Inland from Weybourne is Kelling Heath, which is quite a large area to have a look around.

Further west you have Cley NWT and Blakeney Marshes for waders, and any area of high land nearby (there are lots of public footpaths) is worth investigating. Further west Wells Woods and Holkham usually turn up some good stuff too, not to mention Titchwell and Holme.

Basically in Sept/Oct, stuff could turn up anywhere around Weybourne, so just spend as much time as you can in the general area and you shouldn't be disappointed!

My advice would be to keep an eye on the Norfolk thread. Some good birders posting their sightings there.
As James says anywhere can produce good birds. Just look for the right sort of habitat.

Enjoy.

The advice from James is good.
I guess the nearest reserve is Cley (although the whole of the N. Norfolk coast is good).
If you don't have personal transprt, the Coast Hopper bus will get you to many "hotspots" including Cley (NWT), Blakeney, Holkam, Titchwell (RSPB) and Holme (NWT).
Enjoy the North Norfolk Coast
