R7 delay (2 Viewers)

My R7 has developed a quirk and I can't find how to fix it. When I switch it on, there is a delay of about 10 seconds before it will come to life and allow me to take pictures. At first I thought it was a dirty camera/lens connection but it also happens when I go to image playback and the lens isn't even connected. So now I'm thinking I've accidentally changed a setting and I can't find where. Does anyone have any ideas?

When did you last format your SD card(s)?

No idea. I have two slow cards and two fast cards (which I bought when I realised that the slow cards weren't up to the job). Could it be a card issue? I've used the slow cards plenty of times before and not had this issue. The issue with those cards is to do with buffering capacity when taking a large bust of shots - it was taking far too long to empty the buffer.

I just experienced the same with my R5 - it was taking ages to start up. Tracked it down to the SD card (which I don't use). I reformatted the card, now everything is back to normal

I put in one of the 'fast' cards and formatted it and it seems to be better. Haven't tried it with the problematic slow card yet as I still need to download the pictures. But if these slow cards are going to get worse and worse they may end up in the bin.

I suspect it may just need reformatting. All my problem SD card had on it was the latest firmware. Nothing had been written to it for some time yet it somehow managed to cripple the camera.

Seems like you may have sorted your problem but I had a similar thing with my R5. The camera freezing was happening more often and, over the last few days, sort of died on me. I had to remove the battery and then reinsert it to get the camera to work.

I decided to wipe my SD card and also format it which, so far, has seemed to do the trick.
