Picture help, 800x800 at what DPI? (1 Viewer)

Most of my pictures I downsize for posting look poor. I resize to fit in the 800x800 size. What DPI should they be? Any other methods to get better looking posts? The originals are 100% better looking before I size them for posting.

The DPI value makes no difference at all to a picture posted on the Web. It's only when printed that it comes into effect. So your 800x800 pic will print at 2"x2" if it's 400 DPI, and at 10"x10" if printed at 80 DPI. But they'll look identical on the screen.

Just to add to what Frank said, the rule of thumb for inkjet printing is 200 dpi - you shouldn't go below that, and 200 is sufficient for most printing. Soooo, an 800x800 image should not be printed at larger than 4x4 inches. As Frank said, it makes no dofference at all on the screen (how an 800x800 displays on the screen depends on the resolution of the monitor it is being viewed on).
