photography vest (1 Viewer)

I can highly recommend the following:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Deluxe-Pro-Photo-Vest-Olive-Khaki-Large_W0QQitemZ150211374602QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDigital_Camera_Accessories?hash=item22f94bae0a&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A30

The large outside pockets are fleece lined and swallow a 70-200 2.8, not to mention 8x43 roof binoculars.

I have found this style offered on ebay by other (chinese) sellers on occasion (with nikon, canon embroidered), therefore I believe the company above only had a number commissioned with their own label on it.

Mine is now over two years old and shows no signs of wear (I pretty much wear it 5 out of 7 days).

Guess having one shipped to Europe is another question>

PS. I used fishing vests before, but this one is the first to distribute weight evenly onto the shoulders and not on the neck. Important since loading a vest with optics, filed guide and other stuff makes it very heavy. Fishing tackles are much lighter .....

I like the look of the vest but am not sure of the sizing.

Using their guide I would need an XXL for a 40-42" chest but I don't need it to be 56" around the waist; 36" would be a lot nearer and that's a big difference.

I am using a size L. Two years ago I was leaning towards a XL first, but decided to give L a try.
Most of my T-shirts and shirts are L, few XL (I am 175cm tall ~80kgs).
Just measured my chest -just below the armpits- and came up with ~43 inches.
The L-size vest fits me good, but I am not wearing it above multiple layers of clothing. Just T-Shirt, Shirt and maybe on occasion a sweater. IF I would planing on wearing it above a windbreaker I would go with a XL.

That's what fits me and how I like to wear it. Your take on it may be different.

Hope this was a bit of help

I use an Orvis fishing vest, not too many pockets and nice and short.

Thank you for mentioning Orvis. I have used a Country Innovation vest for a while and always wanted a pocket on the back. I have now found a good vest on the Orvis site so the C/I vest is on EBAY if anybody wants to grab a bargain.

The Orvis was expensive but I was lucky enough to find one with 40% off

It's very well made with far more user friendly pockets.

Thanks again for bringing this company to my attention.

Think there may be a problem with their chest sizes, as they only "go" from 32" to 42", which surely cannot be right - there are some big guys in the US !!

Hi Sean

I've got myself one of these which provides lots of pockets to keep nic-nacs in along with a cushioned seat that very quickly can be pulled down from the elastic straps at the back of the vest. Makes sitting in a hide for hours on end much more comfortable.

www.cabelas.com then search for Cabela's Speedhunter urkey Vest Item:OG-932880

I've recently upgraded from a cheap generic fishing vest (no idea what brand) to a Domke Photogs vest, which cost £40 inclding delivery from Calumet on eBay. Since it is designed for togs it has some really large pockets, which can each swallow a pro body, such as a 1D3 and strap, or take some hefty lenses instead. It also seems well up to scratch in terms of construction quality and robustness.

By comparison the fishing vest was weakly made and the pockets were too small to carry anything larger than a 580EX. I'll give a thumbs up for the Domke.

I got mine for £6.50 from a shop on the seafront at Scarborough just over a year ago. The main pockets are slightly larger than on the Country Innovation one and will hold a 70-200/2.8 lens. Quality etc are fine. If they had had two in stock in my size I would have bought a spare.

Bill, there is just a small label sewn to the front that looks like it could easily be unpicked. Other than that, there is nothing "offensive".

That said, perhaps the mesh cloth on the back would not be to everybody's taste, but I think the ventilation would be very welcome when working during summer, perhaps at a wedding or other busy event.

Thanks, Tim.

Very helpful. I feel a purchase coming on!
