Greetings all yesterday around 5pm (the sun sets at 6:30 here in Panama) this bird (same as article?) displayed the most curious of behaviors to me. I saw it alight atop the iron post, then fly off, only to turn right back around and land on it again. It appeared to be alone while doing this, but had company now and then, before those "singles" flew out of my garden. But this bird wouldn't leave the perimeter of my small garden for a good hour! What's more, it took off from its perch, turning around sometimes immediately, and re-landing there 70 times in 10 minutes, and at least 410 times in an hour!! I would never have believed it unless I'd seen it with my own eyes and managed to videotape (and literally counted) every single U-turn and re-parking that it performed once I started recording (so I missed a few turnabouts). Today noticed it seemed to return to its post a couple of times just to stand guard for a few minutes, once accompanied by a brighter one (male ?) moving about on the ground before they flew away together. Is it a she, and is she pregnant? My friend said they're building a home, but I never see them gathering anything. I never thought I'd witness such curious repetitive behavior as what I observed confined to my little garden yesterday. I'd like to share it with a society or work on an article about it. Firstly, any explanations as to what it was doing and why it might have been on its own private mission? Is that common? I'd really love to know. Cheers!
