Parrots or Parakeets? Maui, Hawaii, USA (1 Viewer)

This happy group appears to contain two species. About 20 birds belong to this flock. None looks quite like any illustration in my ID books. apologies for the poor quality of the photos; the larger group is clipped out of a video.

They look a lot like Rosy-faced Lovebirds. Probably escapees?
Sometimes called Peach-faced Lovebirds.

Most likely intentionally released. There are a number of people intentionally introducing alien birds (and other plants and animals) here.

My Maui sources say they've been around for about 15 years, and seem to be expanding.

Why would people intentionally introduce lovebirds?

For the same reason some people want daisies in their gardens instead of dandelions - just a more extreme version. Also, businesses like resorts and bed & breakfasts like to have exotic animals on their property as a selling point. Many of the resorts here have imported some ridiculous animals.
