I have three birds that I am unsure of. First one is possibly a cinnamon bittern. I saw it flying across a pond and landing in a bed of reeds. It was relatively small and was able to hang on to the reeds. My biggest source of uncertainty is the wing pattern as it was flying. I was pretty far away, shooting through a fence and my zoom maxed out so sorry for the poor image quality. The first three pictures are of this bird taken early in the morning in Sabang on the island of Palawan

Next is a complete guess on my part, perhaps a gerygone of some sort. Picture 4,&5 are of this small bird that was up in a tree. A very small beak but not much to go on with respect to markings. Also taken in Sabang

7The last bird was identified as a scaley breasted munia, but the underparts are not scaled. Perhaps it is an immature bird? Pictures 6,7&8

Any Help is apprecaited

Fritz Leip

Hi Fritz,

Palawan is a wonderful place to bird, I hope it is still relatively untouched.
Your birds are:
1) Yellow Bittern
2) looks like a female Blue & White Flycatcher (assume this was taken during passage as quite a scarce bird in the Philippines, albeit possibly under-recorded due to their frequency in nearby Sabah)
3) immature Chestnut Munia

We have only been here a few days now and it is amazing! Thanks for the information!
