Otter tracks? (1 Viewer)

Noticed a trail of wet footprints on a wooden bridge over a stream this morning - they were about the same size as the prints left by my Westie, but the prints were in pairs (ie front two paws and back two paws side by side, maybe an inch apart). I therefore suspect they were Otter prints, but only from a vague recollection, and I can't locate any articles mentioning this as a feature. As the prints were just water on wood, I couldn't see any real detail, only the positioning to go on. Does anyone know if this is indeed a feature of Otter prints?

An Otter print shows an irregular main pad with 5 toe pads, the webbing doesn't always show.

I'll have to check tomorrow and hope there's some trace left, as I assumed the positioning would be enough so didn't take note of toe pads! I live and learn.....

I would hasten to add that I got the info from the mammals of the british isles handbook, I wouldn't like to appear a know all.

They can also look as if the footprint has a heel which dogs and cats don't have.
