I saw a Herring gull today in Bangor, Ireland, that appeared to have yellow legs.
It was seen well with bins, maybe 10 metres away, and the legs looked distinctly yellow. I had never seen a Herring with yellow legs before.
It was also standing beside another Herring, and appeared to have a noticeably darker mantle.
I have attached a photo and I have to say the legs don't look as yellow in the photo as they did in the field. Perhaps it is simply the light playing tricks on me.
Additionally, this looks to be a female. Can gender or diet impact the leg colour?
