Odd Wood Pigeon (1 Viewer)

I get Wood Pigeons in the garden on a regular basis on the Holly bushes and bird tables. I have one that keeps appearing that looks like a Wood Pigeon but has no white neck flash, in fact the head looks more like a Stock Dove. However the wing edges and the bar seen when flying are definitely white. Do they cross breed?

Wood Pigeons can breed all year round and your bird is almost certainly a juvenile. I have one in my garden at the moment with a slight white mark on one side of the neck only. It also has slightly browner feathers on the back and wings, Ill see if I can get a photo to compare with your bird.

Thanks for that! I somehow have managed to get this thread on twice, probably when I was trying to add the picture. The answer on the other thread agrees with you. I've learned something new today!

Yes a young Wood Pigeon. I recall earlier this year in February when the weather was harsh that we had a young Pigeon coming into the garden.

Here's a shot you may find interesting showing a juvenile Wood Pigeon and an adult Stock Dove, low quality but you'll see that the dove is slightly smaller.
