Is it unusual for a fledgling American Goldfinch to be unafraid of humans? Every spring there’s one or more of these little guys who lets my husband come right up to them at the bird feeder.
Last year, one of them let my husband pet it on its head. Yesterday one let my husband pick it up and when he put it back down, it just hopped over to the bird bath for a drink that was directly behind him. They look physically healthy each time. Good eyesight, good hearing, and good maneuverability.
Is it because they just fledged and haven’t yet learned to be afraid? Or could it be some kind of brain disorder? Has anyone else experienced this type of behavior with young backyard birds? What do you think is the cause of such behavior?
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance 🙂

I’m Cynthias husband. Although these odd baby birds act really adorable we’re both concerned they may be a little undercooked 🐣
I pray they don’t meet the towns local Merlin the hard way 😬
