North Norfolk Birdwatching B&B? (1 Viewer)

West End Birder

Well-known member
I am hoping to reacquaint myself with the North Norfolk coast in early October for a couple of days mainly in the Cley - Titchwell area.

Anyone any recommendations for a B+B budget up to £65 say? It is essential that it is within staggering distance of a local hostelry!

Many thanks

Rob

Cumfus Bottom is on my radar already. Many thanks for the help and apologies for posting in wrong forum. I am wondering whether I might fluke a Barred Warbler, probably a little bit late. On another point, do people still walk to Blakeney (and back)? Or are there better places in the UK - e.g. is Blakeney underwatched these days?

BTW glad breakfasts are good in Norfolk, nothing like a heart attack on a plate to start the day!

Hi Rob, if there were several of you in a party then going self-catering could be a better option. I own a 19th century coach house in Cromer which sleeps 6 (double bedroom with ensuite and 2 x twin rooms). It has parking for 2 cars, WiFi, Ipod Dock, DAB Radio/CD, 2 x TV/DVD, Full gas central heating. You would have to cook your own breakfasts but from November onwards we can accommodate 3 night short breaks which would cost approx £265 for the entire house for the whole of the stay.
Although you'd be coming away slightly from the Cley/Salthouse area you would be ideally positioned for seawatching at Sheringham or Cromer, as well as visits to East/West Runton, Happisburgh, Waxham and the Broads.
Best of all you have 4 or 5 pubs less than a 5 minute walk away as well as a Thai, Indian, Chinese, and Fish & Chip shop!!
Have a look at www.cromercoachhouse.co.uk or PM me for details
Cheers, Paul

As you know there are no 50m events in the Olympics, distance pub to bed would be c.1500 metres, which you could do in 3min 26secs. Obviously to achieve this time you may have to add some substances to your late night drink, and be available for random tests the following morning.

Dave Fell, the owner, is a keen birder and would keep you up-to-date with all the recent news. I recommend you go into training immediately and go for the White Cottage.

Swimming?

I have been given a quote, it is a bit pricey and allegedly 8 minutes from the nearest pub (I can manage that). So still looking, Cumfus Bottom was booked for the dates - I am going in the last week of September to try to nail Barred Warbler, so called because I am barred from ever seeing one!

We always stay at the Boxwood Guest house in Wells. You can opt for an evening meal if you wish. Take a look at their website. We find Wells a good place to cover the whole coast - and inland too.

Wells brings back happy memories - always stayed there in the 1980s in a B+B called Normans (in a close with Jutes Saxons etc) - apparently no longer a B+B. Will look up Boxwood thanks

Yes, we stayed at the Normans a couple of times too when there was a group of us. 'Cobblers' is another large B&B. Opposite 'Normans'?

I always stay at cobblers, been more than happy there and it's ideal location in wells.
Reasonably priced around £40-50 per night per room,at certain times you can get a deal or too, mainly winter.Does a nice brekkie.

Trip advisor I have found is not always reliable, plenty of the reviews can be fake and every review is that persons taste which can vary.

The only thing which I have heard remarked is that they have a few "workers" from the off shore winfarms, which apparently isn't everyone's cup of tea but I have always found them pleasant and good company.
Usually full of birders and a bit of knowledge around the breakfast table goes a long way, each to their own I suppose

Some of the proprietor's replies were great! Thanks for the recommendation and as you say Wells is a good place, plenty of pubs, wonder if there will be a Barred Warbler nearby
