It's a nice little camera - I still have a really tidy one tucked away, even though I'm a Canon user now - but it's ancient in DSLR terms, lacking many of the features and capabilities of newer bodies.

Even so, it'd be a nice introduction to DSLRs if you could get one for a fair price, which would have to be low - £200 would be a high price for a D70.

"Cheap but good" doesn't really work for birding lenses - how much would you be prepared to pay?

not sure yet, but i was just wondering what lens would go with it say like a Sigma AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 DG Macro Canon Fit Lens

thanks

Yeah, the Siggy 70-300mm would work - had one for a while myself - but I was never happy with results from it.

Now the Sigma 80-400mm OS I replaced it with - that was a fine lens. I've still got that too, come to think of it...

My son had one stolen, he took hundreds of wildlife photographs with it, his was a Sigma 28-300 lens, believe me it knocked the Canon 350 I used at the time, sideways.
