Nightjars nr Norwich? (1 Viewer)

Hi All,

Anyone know any reliable sites for Nightjars near Norwich, or more precisely heading south down the A11 from Norwich.... I may well find myself in that area one evening soon.

I know there are some good sites up nr the North Norfolk coast, but I won't have time to get there before it's completely dark...

I was thinking that the area around Thetford looked promising....

All the best.... Ruby

That could be the understatement of the month (even year). Practically any clear felled area in the brecks has nightjars (or so it seems). My personal favourite sites are Mayday Farm (signposted off the B1106 between Brandon and Elveden) and Santon Downham, park in the car park and follow the path that goes under the railway line.
Would have thought you could get to Salthouse (N Norfolk) just as quick as Thetford though?

Nick

As Nick mentions, stopping somewhere likely looking should produce them.....the main A11 could even have them by the military training area about 10-15 miles west of Norwich (sorry i can't remember exact location but you'll see the habo)

Thanks Nick... I'll give Mayday Farm a go I think...

I need to head back to Surrey from Norwich, so somewhere vaguely en-route would be favourite...
