Nightjars in North Norfolk? (1 Viewer)

Kevin

Registered User (not drugs)
I'm spending a few days in a tent in north Norfolk (near Titchwell) next week...

...can anyone suggest a suitable site to watch nightjars? (within 15 miles?)

Many thanks

Kevin

I know a lot of people say the Dersingham area is very good for Nightjar, but I don't know where they actually go... It's between Kings Lynn and Hunstanton somewhere! Hopefully someone else will be able to provide more detail.

Buxton Heath

Marsham Heath

not really that close though

Kelling / Salthouse heath are popular

u could get an OS map and check any suitable heathland - probably turn one up...

Go passed the Wolferton triangle and park on the right and walk into Dersingham bog.
I ain't saying they're there yet...but it won't be long before they are!

You make it sound so appealing, Dave... hope it's just as easy to walk out of said bog!

Well a Nightjar was posing on the hand rail going down into the bog from the ex-sea cliffs last year!

Very appealing :)

Sandringham does have them as well, I should think - it's only a stone's throw from Dersingham - but I wouldn't recommend wandering around furtively at dusk with binoculars! Rather likely to find yourself answering awkward questions at gunpoint...

Sandringhams the best place I've ever seen Nightjars, your okay, its a bit away from Liz's residence.
