Nightjars in Florida advice (1 Viewer)

We visited Florida in June 1988. I remember 2 different experiences with Nightjars and would appreciate any advice on their ID.

1. We visited a fast food joint on International Drive (I think). On the roof there were several searchlights directed up into the sky. In the light you could see several Nightjars feeding on illuminated insects. At the time I thought they were Common Nighthawks.

2. Several days later we visited the Everglades. There were many Nightjars perched on roadside wires along the roads near to the entrance to the park. It was the afternoon, not yet sunset, but there was a lot of cloud and it was quite dark at the time. Which species would these most likely have been?

Many thanks for any help with this one!

Both circumstances would have been Common Nighthawks. The only other nightjars expected in June in Florida would be Chuck-Wills-Widows, which are hardly ever out before dark, don't perch on wires, or forage high in the sky, and Antillean Nighthawks, which are restricted to the south Florida Keys.
