New Samsung NV3 Digital Camera Part 1 (1 Viewer)

Went to see my friend Mike Moore at Pennine Photographic in Rochdale on Saturday, he has been very good to me the last few years by letting me test the latest cameras suitable for digiscoping, and in the past, i have persuaded him to buy in new products/accessories for our hobby.

Just in literally was the new Samsung NV3 camera, 7.1 mill pixels, internal 3X optical zoom, ISO from 80 - 1000, memory card SD format, built in MP3 player, and the ability to record and down load video. Link to review of this camera

I only had a couple of hours to spare, so I asked Mike what Digiscoping bits and bobs he had in the shop, so in the spur of the moment, we set up a Pennine universal adapter to connect it to the camera, then we also attached a SRB-Grituirn cable release bracket, lenses tried on the Zeiss scope, lenses were the 32WA and the 20-60 zoom

Now i needed some subjects to take pics of! Mike directed me to the nearest bit of water which was Hollingworth Lake at Milnrow Rochdale where the obligatory mallards and canada geese were present, pictures taken in the shop through the glass looked promising, so i was keen to try out this kit in the field. When I arrived there, loads of people and children milling about feeding the ducks, but that didn’t stop me taking pictures until the girl with the rather large Alsatian dog started throwing sticks into the water and scattering all the birds for about 10 mins, by this time it was time to get back to the shop

Tried the Zeiss 32WA first, but the birds were just to close, but no vignetting at zero zoom on the camera, this was good, with the 20-60 zoom slight vignetting but two clicks of the zoom cleared this, (7 clicks covers the 0 - 3X optical zoom) the camera liked to be around 2mm away from the eyepiece to gain the best picture on both eyepieces.

Attached are some pictures of this setup - please note the camera LCD screen still has the protective film strip still on it and the date in the camera had not been changed for you sharp eyed people!

wow....sounds like a great freind (for a keen digiscoper),someone that owns a camera shop and lets you hang out, testing out the new kit and cameras.

The new samsung looks nice, with those curved sides etc.Did you manage to get any good pics with it ?

I found a review online and i cant figure out if the 'Program' mode they mention means the same as a manual mode?

thankyou for sharing your findings.

I've done it again, replied to an old post.Where was part 2 of this hiding yesterday....doh
