Hi all

As a kid I used to love birdwatching but life moves on and now I’m my late 50’s and I’ve returned to the hobby ( currently working through my Merlin Bird ID life list…) I’ve also been a professional photographer for a very long time ( I started in a Black and White darkroom at 17 )
I have seen the introduction of Ilford Multigrade, the demise of Kodachrome and Photoshop 3.0 first arriving on floppy disks.
I also love a good adventure, slip on a rucksack and away I go. What could be better than wild camping under the stars and a good mug of coffee while watching the sun comes up…..
Hello everyone…

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

We have a Gallery where you can upload a maximum of three of your photos in a 24 hour period. 😊

Hi Pixelsnapper and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Hi and welcome
One piece of advice, get the best binoculars you can afford.
There are absolute bargains to be found in the second hand market.
You probably know that , because of the photography background.
Coffee and birds pure bliss
Regards.

Hi
I have been using a pair of Leica 8x32 trinovid HD for the last few years which are extremely sharp and a lovely size to carry but do suffer with chromatic aberration when used against a bright sky. Notably watching buzzards and red kites.
Which is a great shame as I can’t unsee it now I see it.
I’ve just upgraded them with a pair of Swarovski El Field Pro 10x42as I wanted a bit more reach and now nearly all the chromatic Has gone…nearly…
( On a side note the trinovids might be a little bit sharper in the centre and hold up very very well next to their expensive cousins )
My dilemma is what to part ex the trinovids against… id like something smaller than the 10x42’s a question for the other forum I guess…
I also own a pair of Bushnell 15x56 for stars / satellites and sea life mounted on a Manfrotto video head. They also suffer from chromatic but are nice and sharp in the centre and a they were reasonable price.b33bcd7d-fb70-44ff-8893-de1b6715ce7a.jpega9a13b61-a89e-4512-a9fa-ce7823d48e41.jpeg
