o:D Hi All.
Collared Doves have started nesting behind my neighbours T.V. dish, as they did last year. They were first seen early on Christmas morning, and despite me thinking it was just an exploratory exercise, they have kept going, and the nest is taking shape.

Regards to all.

Hi Baz,

I can remember your Doves nesting behind the satellite dish very well indeed, shows they must have been satisfied with the reception too.

Yours and ours must have been thinking alike as ours were mating a couple of weeks ago and although we don't know where they're nesting, I'll bet a bob they are.
All the best Baz, to the family also.

Love, Sue.

Hi

I was going to post a thread asking if it is the time for collared doves to start mating, but it seems to be the time judging by your 2 threads. I have a gang of around 5 or 6 come to my feeder and this morning a couple were obviously full of festive cheer and happily mating over the head of another feeding dove (no shame at all). I have no idea were they roost but they come to my garden at about 8ish every day and have now used the new birdtable a couple of times so all is well.

All the best

Hi Baz and all,

I also spotted a Collared Dove this morning with a stick ready to take to the nest wherever it might be. It seems very strange to see when it is snowing!!!

Hello All

I think that CD's will mate and nest all year round - perhaps it is something to do with the fact that they are not originally residents here in GB although they have increased enormously.

Perhaps someone more knowledgable will enlighten us.

just had a look, and it turns out that collard doves will breed at any time of year.

Hi Baz,

My regular flock are showing signs of friskiness (but that's not new) but haven't actually seen any nooky (not for want of trying by some of the males) nor nest-building so far. There's certainly a bit of 'mooing' going on and a couple of mornings ago, when it was a little less cold, a Wood Pigeon had a short burst from one of the trees but he's shut up again. Shall keep a more careful eye on them, see if I spot any twig-gathering.

Bill.

Hmm, I wonder what THOSE doves will be getting up to on New Years Eve...I think they might be having some fireworks of their own ;)

My local doves always seem to be in pairs but no sign of nest building yet.

Hi All

Well I'm glad to read that your collared doves are getting in the mood too as mine ( I get about 20 ) seem to be ready for a bit of love making since a couple of weeks or so. Plenty of cooing, chasing and well 'making babies! or nooky as Bill calls it. :'D

No shame have they!!! Anything in my garden is useful for rumby pumpy so it seems. The feeder stand, the squirrel tray, the bird house, bird bath even other feeding doves who are not best pleased. Last week even a starling got in on the act and landed on the back of collared dove who promptly shooved him off. Poor thing got a bit confused with all the action going on I persume?? :eek!:

My daughter came in the room today grinning from ear to ear saying that the birds are doing naughty things in the garden. She is 17 and therefore I'm glad to say I did not need to explain about the birds and bees. Still she thought it was rather entertaining and decided to see if she could capture the action with her webcam to show her friends. Luckily the cable was to short. Phew.

Happy birdies, Liebchen

Hello Baz...I have quite a little flock of collared doves frequent my garden and there is quite a lot of displaying going on...I thought they nested in Conifer trees and although they breed all year round, your birds do seem to be nesting especially this year...SL x
