Hello! Last week, a couple of sparrows made a nest in my house. They most likely laid eggs, but I'm not sure.

Today, the female sparrow accidentally died in the door, and now the male sparrow is continuously making sounds and roaming here and there.

What should I do now?
If she laid eggs, what will happen to them?

Hi rushikesh and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sorry to hear about this disaster. I take it they are House Sparrows? If she did lay any eggs, I'm afraid they will not survive as the male will not be able to brood them on his own, but will just look for another mate. They may, or may not, use the same nest, depending on the cause of the female's death. If they do they will remove the old eggs before starting to lay the new ones.

Please let us know what happens.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Thank you for your reply.

My family and I have been sad since morning because of this accident.

I have a doubt—if the male sparrow doesn’t return in the next two days and we find eggs in the nest, can we hatch them artificially?
