Need Help! Loud Bird Driving Me Nuts! (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the board, but I just had to join because this mysterious bird has appeared near my house and I need some expert help. We've never seen the bird, but we're hearing it more and more. It's not getting louder, just more frequent. We live in Florida, just north of Tampa. It sounds like the bird is in the trees in a Preserve in the same spot every day. Based on the noise made, it must be a huge bird.

The full sound starts with either a honk or gargle noise and then loud caws in repetition always sounding the same and always at the same pace.

I made a recording with my phone. It's not ideal and its not the full sound, but I thought just the partial sound may help in identifying. Any help would be very appreciated. I uploaded the recording with this post.

Hmmm.......Interesting. I listened to a few peacocks online and it does sound a lot like what I'm hearing.

The only thing that is missing is that in the beginning I typically hear that honking sound or a gargle sound. One of those sounds will kick off the rest of the noise, but I can never get it recorded because I miss it between hearing it and pressing record. I never know when its going to happen, but I hear it at least 20 times a day. I used to only hear it may be once every few weeks. This spring it has really increased. I also used to hear it more at night than during the day. I work from home and now I hear it all day too.

The closest I came to finding the sound on enature.com wasw a Golden Eagle, but that is more of a scream than a caw. The peacock is the closest I've heard so far, but I feel like the peacocks sound is missing something in the beginning. The rest of it is right on though. Thanks for the help!

Anyone else have an opinion here? I'm going to try and get a better recording too.

to be honest I'm happy to settle on Peacock if others agree because I just need an answer after all this time listening to the thing!

It makes me do this B :)
