In a nutshell:
I received a cherry (8x) and a lemon (10x). The well-known problem of insufficient QC because of price restrictions
After this problem was solved with a replacement, I found the 8x42 to be a pleasant allround binocular with good value for money.
The 10x42 is, IMO, not as sound as the 8x. Its harder to find the maximum sharpness. 10x "creeps" into focus, 8x "snaps", I prefer the latter.
As far as FOV goes, the 10x gives an isolated tunnel view, with the 8x I feel to be much more involved into the view.
Straylight is much more prevalent in the 10x than the 8x. From downright unusuable with the first one, it progressed to still more present with the replacement.
Maybe this is part because of sample variations, but I think the 8x is by direct comparison the better construction. (Please note, I am very much biased towards 8x in general, this may have an influence on my judgement. For example, I dont like the narrower DOF and smaller FOV of 10x binoculars)
