My Nikon P5100 digiscoping set up (1 Viewer)

Bird Hard 2

Cynical Sceptic
Hi,
Just thought I'd share my set up with you as I was a bit confused about what I'd need to convert from my Nikon Coolpix 995 to a Coolpix P5100. I use a Swarovski ATS 80 HD, with a 20-60 zoom.
For my Digiscoping setup I use a Nikon UR-E20 which screws onto the threaded ring around the lens of the Coolpix, plus a Spidertech adapter which screws into the other end of the UR-E20 (see first two photos below).
The Spidertech adapter comes with an attachment ring which fits around the telescope eye ring (see third photo below).
The idea is to carry the camera around in a bag or pack (so you can use your scope normally and only get your camera out when you want it) and then you can quickly place the camera over the eyepiece and start shooting (see final photo below).
The Nikon UR-20 is quite hard to come by in the UK. The best I could find was from Photo Solution (http://www.photosolution.co.uk/) for £29. They were very good and sent it the same day.
You can read more about the SpiderTech adapters at:
http://www.spidertech.fi/ada.php
but they are distributed by Cursorius.

They are currently priced at 145 Euros.

Happy Digiscoping!

That looks a simple, neat solution and the adapter should block out most of the stray light. Does the Spidertech have a screw to lock it in place or is just a push fit onto the scope?

Thats sound very easy. It's very similar to what I do as I have the same scope and camera but I have the swarovski adapter the one half I leave permanently on the scope and the other half fitted to the camera so its only a question of sliding the two together to shoot photos.
Can I ask what settings you prefer for P5100 as I'm still experimenting?
Cheers
Rob

Ron - yes the Spidertech adapter has a small indent in the end of it. This goes over a screw which is on the lens adapter ring. I leave my screw off though as it allows me to alter the rotation of the camera over the lens, compensating for any unevenness in the tripod legs angle/length.
Rob - I've only taken a few shots so far myself, but generally I leave it on the 'P' setting (aperture) and open the aperture up as far as possible.
