How to count Muscovy Ducks and Scaly breasted Munias in a life list?? Should you?? according to ABA. I saw the munias SW of Houston in January. and muscovies north of houston, texas. Can I count these in a life list and are they countable by ABA?? I also saw Muscovy Ducks in San Antonio; are they countable there?

ABA considers the munias countable in 7 states - FL, AL, MI, LA, TX, CA and HI. Domestic-type Muscovies are considered countable by the ABA only in Florida, wild-types are countable wherever they occur (which is only in the Rio Grande Valley).

Domestic-type Graylag Geese are not considered countable anywhere in the ABA, but wild-type vagrants are. Egyptian Geese are considered countable in 5 states - FL, AR, TX, NM and CA.

Personally, I think the ABA's policies on Muscovy Duck and Graylag Geese are a little silly, and both species are probably established in Texas and other places, so if you want to count them on your personal list I don't think anyone cares. But as I've described above is the official ABA policy.

If you use eBird, it might not hurt to add the species to the location (if you are certain of the ID). They may give you a fuss, but I have done that in the past only to find the same species added to their main list for that location a couple of years later.

Very interesting. I actually did see a wild-type Muscovy in San Antonio so is that countable? Also thanks for the answers about the Scaly-breasted Munias
