Moving moles on (1 Viewer)

Is there anyway I can catch moles without resorting to killing. I have I think a couple which are literally destroying the lawn. I am having to walk on the lawn very carefully as the tunnels are creating lots of hollows I have tripped in these on many occasions. Any suggestions.

It's possible to buy ultrasonic mole repellers which supposedly keep them away. I've no idea how well they work...

Hi Beany, I have three of those, they do sort of work, but the garden has that may underground tunnels they just move to the next one. I will have to do something about it soon as I will be holding a wedding here next June, the last thing I want is someone to sue for a broken ankle.

There's a 'Sonic Molechaser' and a humane trap here:

Here's another method:

"We use jeyes fluid which is a chemical that has been used for gardeners for over 50 years for a whole range of tasks including sterilising pots and soil, controlling moss and a whole host of other uses. We simply find the run open the highest end up and using a watering can pour in a strong mix of jeyes fluid and water (1 ; 20 ) With the mole having a highly developed sense of smell it tends to drive them away from there current location. To make sure they are going in the right direction we also water a banned across the lawn or bed (using a diluted mix 1:40) to form a barrier against the mole moving in an undesired direction. Over about 10 days we continue this operation until the move has moved on or at least into a less damaging area".

Thanks Saluki. That is a brilliant idea, I used to use jeyes to disinfect where the dogs used to go. I remember how strong the smell can be and how long the smell lasted. I will print off what you have said as a reminder on dilutions. Thanks

P.S My Hubby is out there at the mo putting jeyes into the runs.

Don't know how true it is but I have heard that you can use the annoying music maker out of novelty cards to get rid of moles. Remove said item from the birthday/xmas card and place in mole's run. Battery will eventually wear out but the mole should have beat a retreat before then. I ftrue would be fun to compile a top ten of mole repellent cards. :'D

We bought some stuff from this website http://www.greengardener.co.uk/repel.htm (see near the bottom of the page). The smell is absolutely disgusting but shortly after we started using it the mole went.

It took a lot of work to repair the lawn so you didn't nearly break your ankle every time you walked on it.

an old established way is by using moth balls. find the runs and drop a few in.
another is using things like bramble stalks or holy leaves down the runs. they dont like the spikes in their nosesand move away. There are also traps which dont kill but trap em then you can take em away.
good luck is a hard job and will take some time to move em on

This is getting hilarious. Some of the remedies I may have a go at but I will wait and see how the jeyes works first. Don't want the neibhours sending out for white coats. LOL!

Lovely typo error, I assume you meant holly? If not, can you please start a new thread "How to get rid of vampire moles".

I heard of an old gardener recommending childrens windmills on spikes stuck in the ground around the garden...... for what that may be worth!

The Jeyes didn't work the mole is still pushing up the soil in the same hills. Tried the windmills we have posh one's brought back from America, they didn't work. Sonic one just makes them make new holes. Not tried the mothballs can't seem to get hold of them.

I had success in driving moles out of a small garden by dropping a couple of small speakers wrapped in plastic bags into their tunnel system and playing an Iron Maiden tape on endless repeat to 'em.
