We had a House Sparrow pair build a nest in an inverted watering can under our carport this spring. For awhile there was a second male hanging around that just seemed to irritate the pair. Haven't seen him in a long time. Eggs were laid and hatched as I could hear the peeping. Never did see any of the young, but assumed they finally took off on their own when the peeping stopped. Haven't seen the female after all that, but the male still hangs around the can and directly above it on the carport roof. He's there early in the morning when I read the paper and again in the early evening. He''ll fly off for a bit, but always comes back and flits between 'his' spot, the phone line above, or the top of the deck brace that's close to his area. He chirps loudly and constantly. I've read sparrows will mate for live, but occasionally will take up with another. What do you think, is this guy pining for his lost love? I've never paid any attention to sparrows before, but it dawned on me early on this guy's a constant and exhibiting behavior I wouldn't not have associated with a bird. Thanks.
