Male blackbird attempting to feed adult female (1 Viewer)

I have had a pair of blackbirds around my garden since spring. The male is extremely tame and 'mugs' me each morning for meal worms and sultanas.They have had two families so far and attempted a third nest two or three weeks ago on top of a round patio light outside my kitchen window. As you can imagine this was rapidly abandoned once things started to slide half way through construction!

This morning after his usual breakfast courtesy of moi he began chasing his missus around the lawn trying to feed her. She didn't co-operate but he persisted running around in front of her with his beak full.

I have seen robins behaving like this but never blackbirds. Is this common to all birds? I guess he was trying to get her in the mood again for 'luurve' ...........

Sounds like it, male birds often try to show females how good a provider they are, but doesn't sound as if he was too successful in this case eh!

Dougie and yourself are right. They do it to strengthen pair bonds. I'd say it's too late now for the female to to through the entire process of raising a brood by now, but the males will purely go on instinct.
