Magpie duck? (1 Viewer)

Well, like many other domestic breeds, it's Mallard derived, so males have curled-up tail feathers, and females don't (I read somewhere...)

I think our local duck has black further down the nape. I have no idea if it is male or female; it is always alone, separate from the white Pekins that keep as a tight flock and the wild Mallards.

Senior moment :-C

My first thought too, Chris. (I don't think I'm a senior, but my brain has a lot of kms on it...)

But not trusting my internal brain, I consulted my external brain (i.e. Wikipedia) and saw that there is an actual breed called Magpie Duck (of which I had not previously heard.)

I don't really know what I meant originally. :D

The duck has been in the pond for a while now and I had no idea what it was. I assumed it was some sort of domestic duck but had no clue until I seen some pictures or very similar birds with the title of magpie duck.

None of the wild mallards in the pond ever go near it. Been on it's own for a long time now.
