Macaws, you know those big parrots, well here’s one for you I wasn’t drunk and my 14 year old son saw it first but as I drove through Kirby Steven, Westmorland, England I saw one fly across the road in front of the car, Has anyone else heard of one flying round up there or is there somewhere it could have escaped from.
I know what I saw I just didn't beleive it It was a Macaw

I don't believe this! My wife and I saw one at Titchwell about 10.am on Monday. It was witnessed by at least six other people, so we weren't drunk either.
At least I think it was a Macaw. Bright blue upperparts and bright yellow below. It flew across the reserve, calling as it went and vanished over Thornham. We were surprised as to how large a bird it was and everything around took flight as it passed over.
I understand they are worth a few bob so anyone who has lost one could be well out of pocket!

Hola:

I could not find a picture but here go some tips:

Macaws in flight: Pointed wings + Pointed Tails no feathers on the face. If they had feathers on their faces it could have been a parrakeet.

Parrots in Flight: Rounded tails and wing tips, fast flapping of wings, no gliding except when arriving at a perch.

Macaws in Kirkby Stephen

Hi, I'm no expert, but I saw a pair of Macaws flying low over Kirkby Stephen town centre on New Year's Day (2007), shortly before starting the Nine Standards Fell Race. This means I'm mad, but not barking.

Was just about to ask that. Thank you, Leopoldo!
