Luggage allowance on Easy Jet (1 Viewer)

I'm planning a few days away in Europe next yr and have booked a flight on easy jet. I have a luggage allowance of just one hand luggage sized bag, the size that fits into that small cage at airports. My scope may just about fit but can I carry my tripod on as well as my one permitted piece of hand luggage?

I strongly suspect that the answer is no. I don't have a particularly large ruck sack but i can fit my tripod, scope, bins, camera gear and other assorted stuff that i don't want to be lost/stolen, all inside. I use Ryanair and Easyjet and, whilst i suspect it would fit into the small cage, i've never been asked to do it. The only people i've seen that have been asked to do it are the ones obviously taking the mickey. The easy answer may be to get a larger piece of hand luggage.

I think not. I have a short tripod which would fit if I chose to travel with one, but I'm able to keep one in Spain so I don't need to travel with one.

We arrived (on time as it happens) for an Easyjet flight back home from Malaga last year, but as the inbound flight had arrived early, the outbound flight was also called early. We arrived at the gate (last to arrive) to be told we couldn't take our bags on as there wouldn't be room in the overhead lockers. So they put them in the hold (without charge) but of course there was plenty of room. Bit annoying, but I've seldom been asked to put my bag in the cage.

I use a standard 35 litre rucksack on Easyjet. it would fit in the cage if I was asked, but I've never been asked, because presumably the check-in staff recognise the type.

It holds my cameras, scope, bins and a 400mm lens, but my tripod always travels in the hold in my case.

At a push I could get the tripod, scope and bins into the rucksack if I removed the centre column first, but then there'd be no room for the photography gear so the situation's never arisen.

I've always presumed you can't take tripods in hand luggage as it could be considered as a "dangerous weapon".
Don't know if this is correct, but never wanted to get to security, and be told I can't take it on.
Has anyone else taken tripod on as hand luggage and got away with it ?

Pete.

I believe that a tripod would be confiscated as a potentially dangerous weapon if taken in hand luggage on any flight.

I managed to take my scope, tripod and binocs in a case as hand luggage for a short stay on Madeira with Easyjet. The tripod fitted in by partially dismantling it. No problem at airport as my case fitted in their metal cage just.

Used to take the whole scope seperate to my hand luggage before all the security/money making schemes. One time I was asked to remove the tripod and they stored it at the back of the plane until we disembarked, since then the one item of hand luggage rule has meant the tripod goes with the main luggage regardless.

I took my tripod as hand luggage in 03 when doing a Tom Gullick special in Spain. Had no probs then with SqueezyJet. Now just put it on my hold baggage - used to strap to the outside until some git in Atlanta nicked it during a transfer....
