Low Buzzing Call, Grey head, Merseyside,UK (1 Viewer)

Only managed to see this birds cheek + eye which was battleship grey.

Hiding in small tree making an odd low buzzing call, sort of short "ZZZZ" "ZZZZ" "ZZZZ". Any ideas?

Not much to go on but the call was distinctive.

Barry.

This reminds me of Common Whitethroat's alarm call also, as written, though there really isnt a whole lot to go on, unfortunately.

Thanks.

I'll check on the whitethroat alarm call later ( i'm at work so cant play it ).

To be honest It didn't sound like an alarm call, it was really quite lazy and low almost like a intermittent bumble bee buzzing. Alarm calls to me are usually quite frantic.

I'll post again once I've played the whitethroat.

Did it sound like an electrical spark - "tzzzt" ? Might be worth considering poorly seen blackcap (maybe f). I say that becaue they're more inclined to stay undercover and give this call frequently.

Can only find one whitethroat alarm call recording and its pretty similar, but not exact. I guess birds are the same as humans they have differing "voices".

the similarity coupled with a picture I found of a very grey headed Whitethroat make me belive this was indeed a whitethroat giving an alarm call. Plus there were lots of other whitethroats in the area.

Thanks for your help.

Barry.
