Little Owl or Lilith's? Bodrum, S Turkey (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Maybe the title of this thread will be enough to confirm an ID! I saw this owl one hot June day in Bitez, near Bodrum (South-West Turkey). I think this is a Little Owl (maybe A.N. indigena) but, since reading "Owls Of The World" am confused whether the similar Lilith's Owl's range extends this far west. Curious if this is a Little Owl, a Lilith's Owl, or a hybridisation, and why (appearance and range)? I suspect Little but who knows.

Many thanks,

Paul

Someone who actually knows lilith will no doubt respond (I don't), but from the description in the book I suspect this is little owl as you say. I think it's too generally dark in colour, esp. so if we take into account the over exposure of the photos. This is in part my inference as we can't see it well, but the facial disk seems too well defined here as well

Differences at least partially clinal and subject to individual variation, but this looks like a standard indigena.
