Little Grebe - summer plumage? (1 Viewer)

luke

A Welsh birder in Dorset!
hi folks,
whilst out for a walk during my lunch break at college, i saw a little grebe on a pool just off the main river (the usk). the river was extremely high, hence the bird being where it was. but the thing was, it was in breeding plumage. only a few weeks ago a saw 2 little grebes on the main river both in winter plumage. Is there any reason for this??

That's very late. Maybe an adult male, fit and healthy, and wanting to be able to impress the ladies in winter as well as spring/summer? ;)
