Lidl (Pepito) bird food? (1 Viewer)

Born again birder!!
Hello,

Just a quick question.

I have just started feeding birds in my Garden, and have 3 fairly large feeders. I am buying the food from Lidl and about 10 percent seems to end up on the ground.

I'm on a bit of a budget as a student, and I am going through 2 kilos a day (!!) and I live in the Highlands of Scotland so selection is limited. I'm concerned that I could get better value using something else

Any advice would be grateful, I have mostly Tits and Finches (and believe it or not the odd Twite!).

Two kilos a day! :eek!: Gosh, that is a lot of seed. How big are your feeders?

It won't be wasted on the ground as the ground feeders will hoover it up. You might find that peanuts in a mesh feeder will last longer, though peanuts are very expensive just now.

Fat balls last quite well too.

If the Lidl one is a cheap one then it may contain some 'fillers' like crumbled dog biscuits to make it look like a lot of food. Food dropped on the ground will be eaten by pigeons, doves, squirrels etc. but if you want to only feed the smaller ones you can always use a feeder tray to reduce mess.

2kg a day is quite astonishing! Lucky you get twites, I've never seen them.

I'm only a teenager and I have 5 birdfeeders and I need to manage all that with the pocket money of 9 pounds a month. What I did was I planted some sunflowers and finches adored the seeds. However, it is getting really warmer(it is in England anyway!!) so I'm guessing that the number of birds visiting your garden would go down dramatically as there are natural food sources.
